As part of their Total Defence activities on 15th February 2021, preschoolers at all the six NurtureStars centres decorated National Service-themed appreciation cards to thank their fathers for defending the nation.

This is the second year the centres are participating in the “Appreciating NSmen Art Jam” activity initiated by the Association of Early Childhood & Training Services, (ASSETS) as a lead-up to Singapore Armed Forces Day on 1 July 2021.

Themed “Our Hopes, Our Singapore”, the Art Jam activity is designed to encourage positive conversations among preschool children and their families about their hopes and dreams for the nation and to thank their NSmen fathers.

The Nursery 2, Kindergarten 1 and 2 children were encouraged to illustrate their hopes and dreams by drawing and colouring a card using a specially-designed template, which they could cut, fold and glue together to make a framed appreciation card that could be displayed at home.

Going forward, there are plans for lessons to educate the preschoolers about the importance of Total Defence, its six pillars and how every Singaporean has a part in safeguarding the nation’s security.
