Classes at all the six NurtureStars preschool centres were awashed in red and white when the children turned up to celebrate the nation’s 55th birthday in the early part of August.
Donning the national colours, the children sang the national anthem and recited the pledge as one united people “to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation.”
Teachers told stories on Singapore’s progress through the years and explained to them the significance of the celebration. They led the children in singing and dancing to the national days songs while waving flags and fans with the Singapore emblem and colours.
In addition, children at the centre in Safra Punggol were quizzed on the story of Sang Nila Utama who discovered Singapore in 1299 and made puzzles on various national landmarks.
Children at Safra Jurong West, Mount Faber, Tanah Merah, Toa Payoh and Yishun made paper cut-outs and crafts on various Singapore icons to express their pride in our nation.
They all enjoyed the activities together and had their pictures taken to show their mums and dads.
